WAR SERVICE GRATUITIES

APPLICATION FORMS

The application forms for wax’ service gratuities were available at the Chief Post Office in Greymouth yesterday. Also available with the forms were information pamphlets, which answer the questions likely to be asked about qualifications for a gratuity. The application form seeks information as to which branch of the forces the applicant has served in, and also whether the applicant is in receipt of a permanent or temporary war pension for total or partial disablement in respect of the war. Details of fully-mobilised service, both in New Zealand and overseas are to be listed in indicated columns, and where exact dates or service are not known the approximate dates will suffice, as all periods of service will'be checked from official records.

The periods of service which do not entitle a serviceman or .servicewoman to payment of a gratuity are listed in one section of the information pamphlet. They are: (a) any service for any period during which the applicant’s pay oi’ unallotted pay has ceased by reason of misconduct or for any other reason. Absence without leave, imprisonment, and leave without pay come under this head; (b) any amount paid or payable by any other Government or authority on account of a gratuity of the same nature in respect of any period of his service. Debits in pay accounts which have not previously been recovered in whole or in part come under this head, as do, debits for kit deficiencies.
