PRIMARY PRODUCTION
COUNCIL MEETING
Mr. D. B. Jellie presided at a meeting of the Primary Production Council held in Greymouth yesterday.
It was decided that the Minister of Transport be approached concerning the allocation of tyres to the West Coast. The Minister was to be asked to consider granting a larger number, particularly to farmers, as the position was bad. The feeling of the meeting was that if no increase is forthcoming it would be idle lor the district committee to report on applications for tyres. A letter of sympathy is to be sent to Mr. L. W. Bassett, of Hohonu, who was severely injured in a recent accident. There was some discussion of the plight of a local farmer whose son is in the Forces. Father and son have adjoining holdings carrying 400 sheep and 70 cattle, which are deteriorating through lack of attention. It was decided to make a request for the early release of the son, whose discharge has already been approved by the Army authorities.
