PUBLIC SERVANTS
MEETING AT HOKITIKA. Believed to be the largest gathering of Public Servants to have been held in Hokitika, 50 local members met last evening to hear an address delivered by Mr. J. K. Hunn, National President of the New Zealand Public Service Association. In. the absence of Mr. T. Seebeck, Chairman of the local Committee, the meeting was presided over by Mr. J. P. Atkinson, Chairman Of the Seaview Mental Hospital Group. Mr.'Hunn, in the course of an interesting address, mentioned the part that the Association is playing in its efforts to improve working conditions of. Public Servants and of the re - cognition which is being accorded the organisation by the Government and the Public Service Commissioner. He gave a detailed account of the activity of the combined service organisations in connection with the recent major amendments in the superannuation legislation and discussed the effect the improvements will have upon the retiring allowances of State servants. A ' number of questions were answered by Mr. Hunn and the following resolution, which was moved by Mr. W. M. Fraser, and seconded by Mr. Courtnay Biggs, was carried unanimously: “That this representative meeting of Public Servants at Hokitika congratulates the National Executive of the Association on the success achieved in having the superannuation legislation passed in its accepted form.” Mr. Hugh Symons, Assistant General Secretary of the Association, spoke on the necessity for solidarity within the Association and for loyalty to the executive officers and committee.
