GREY ATHLETIC CLUB

GENERAL MEETING. There was an attendance of over 35 members at a meeting of the Greymouth Amateur Athletic Club held in the R.S.A. rooms last evening, Mr. I. Steel presiding. Before the meeting opened, the chairman extended a welcome to Mr. A. Fong, a. former West Coast athlete who had returned from overseas, and wh,o was interesting himself in the club. The Secretary of the Maher Cup competition advised that these series would be recommenced on February 1 at Nelson, and a letter was also received from the Nelson Club on the same subject. The Nelson Club also invited nominations from the Grey Club for a meeting to be held at Nelson on December 29. The Secretary, Mr. S. M. McDonnell, reported that an invitation had been extended to the club by the Hokitika Sports Club to attend their meeting at Hokitika on Boxing Day. It was decided that a team from the Grey Club travel to Hokitika ,arrangements to provide bus transport to be made.

The Timaru Athletic Club advised that its team, numbering about 40 men and women, would arrive by bus in Greymouth on Friday, January 11, and would leave again on Sunday. It was decided to accept January 12 as the date for the meeting and. to arrange for the billeting of the visitors. The Secretary reported that the Te Kinga Sports Club had requested the club to conduct a programme at their sports meeting, and he had forwarded a programme. January 19 was decided upon as the date for the club’s visit to Westport. It was decided that the West. Coast championships be held at Greymouth on February 23, Canterbury athletes to be invited to compete at the meeting. Club championships, it was decided, would also be held. The question of lanes for the sprint track at Victoria Park for weekly meetings was raised and it was decided to investigate the matter.
