TRADES UNION CONFERENCE
N.Z. DELEGATE’S REMINDER
(N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) (Rec. 9.0 a.m.) LONDON, October 3. Mr. Butler (New Zealand delegate to the Trade Union conference in Paris), is reported to have bluntly reminded Russian and American critics of Britain that their war machine was only possible because Britain stood alone for more than a year. “Victory was built on British blood”, he declared, “which enabled Russia and the United States to prepare while the British fought a back-to-the-wall battle all alone.” Mi - . Butler, who has just visited England, warned the workers that reactionaries art? already at work .undermining the Labour Government. He also stated that New Zealand people were thoroughly dissatisfied with the set-up in Japan. CONSTITUTION AGREED. (Rec. 10.10 a.m.) PARIS, October 3. Sidney Hillman, as chairman of the Constitutional Committee of the. World T.U.C. to-day, announced to the cheering delegates that the committee unanimously agreed to a constitution for a new World Federation of Trade Unions. He said the constitution was a compromise which had the approval of the executive committee. Mr. Hillman asked for a quick approval for this unification of world labour. The main British amendments have been written in, says the Associated Press, but nothing was written in as some delegates suggested to restrict or prohibit any political activity in which the Federation might see fit to engage. A clause was added providing the admission of only bona fide trade union organisations.
