DUBLIN PUB. “BLACK”
BAN FOR 15 YEARS LONDON, August 24. For 15 years three men have shared £2/16/- a week between them from the Shop Assistants’ Union to picket a public house called , “Downey’s Select Bar,” seven miles I from Dublin. Their sole duty, to dissuade members of the union from entering, arose from the contention that the proprietor wrongfully dismissed an employee—the union contends that a , nharae of dNhonestv should have been proved by a .Court before the dismissal. The pickets patrol the bar during workin" hours, and there is an occasional brush when the proprietor considers that they are too officious. Annually, on the anniversary of the installation of the pickets, the proprietor gives a party, when drinks are all “on the house,” - but the pickets stay outside. Two of the men | are original pickets. A third died after being on the job seven years, and was replaced.
