GERMAN BURIAL. LONDON, Sept. 12. Without a gunshot salute or bugle blast, the hierarchy of the German High Command at present all prisoners in England, stood on a green slope at the old military cemetery at Aldershot to witness the burial of Field Marshal Ernst von Busch, 60-year-old besieger of Leningrad. It was revealed that von Busch died in the prisoner of war hospital in Nottingham. He is reported to have attempted to commit suicide after the German surrender. Those present at the graveside included von Rundstedt and members of the German High Command collected from prison camps throughout the country to attend the funeral, which was held in the closest secrecy. REBUILDING VIENNA VIENNA, September 12. The United States Forces Administration Headquarters announced the cost of restoring Vienna’s 20,993 war-damaged buildings, which are 21 per cent, of all the city, is estimated at 500,000,000 sterling, and would take seven to ten years, because of shortages. Each Power would assist rebuilding in its own zone.
MORE ATROCITIES REVEALED. SINGAPORE, September 12. Appalling conditions . in Sumatra prisoner of War camps are reported by a South African who parachuted. Death sfrom malnutrition in the three years were 249 out of 1000 at one camp. Natives were dying in thousands from starvation. Food and medical supplies are being dropped in the camps as speedily as possible. British headquarters released an account of the atrocities inflicted on Australian and British prisoners of war in the Singapore war theatre. One of the most repulsive occurred at Paritsulong just before the surrender of Singapore. The Japanese murdered 110 Australians and between 30 and 40 Indians. The bloodbath lasted 24 hours. There were three survivors, one dying after 24 hours. The Japanese shot, clubbed and bayone'tted the men into unconsciousness, tied the survivors, drenched them with petrol,, and set fire to and burned them toideath.
