TIMBER WORKERS

STRIKE TO CONTINUE ' UNANIMOUS DECISION Hopes that the strike which has idled some 60 West Coast sawmills for the whole of this week would be settled when proposals submitted by the Acting-Minister of Labour, Mr. O’Brien, were presented to a mass meeting of the men at the Lyceum Hall, Greymouth, this morning, proved groundless, the men being unanirhous in their determination to remain out on strike until the wet time clause is settled. There were nearly 300 men present at this morning’s meeting, and after some discussion on the telegram received from the Minister in connection with the dispute, it was unanimously decided that work would not be resumed until a guarantee that a wet-time clause for Westland would be agreed to by the employers was given.' The meeting was exceptionally good, stated the Secretary . for the Union, Mr. Turley, this afternoon, and he added that during his thirty years’ experience in industrial matters he had never seen a body of men so determined that they were not going to return to work until they had some guarantee from the employers that any conference held would not be just another method of delay and procrastination.
