MELBOURNE, Feb. 19. “Stiffened Japanese resistance is being encountered by Australian troops on Bougainville, in New Britain, and in northern New Guinea, said an -official Army spokesman. “Progress, however, is being made in all areas. On Bougainville, the Australians, having crossed the Genga River, are patrolling northward along the coast and inland. The Gen- f ga River is on the west coast, north of Tsimba ridge, which fell to the Australians last week.” * The “Svdney Daily Telegraph s correspondent on Bougainville reports that in their advance northward from the Genga River the Australians are being being supported by units of the R.A.A.F..and Royal New Zealand Air > Force.
