Treasure Hunt: The English stallion Treasure Hunt, son of unbeaten Bahram, recently arrived in New Zealand, and was fortunate to reach the Dominion. The steamer on which he was travelling ran into bad weather approaching the New Zealand coast and a heavy sea crashed over Treasure Hunt’s deck box, smashing it in. One side of the box Was caved in and pinned the horse to the floor' and before anything could be done to release him another sea carried away portion of the broken box and set Treasure Hunt at large. The horse injured a hock and was badly bruised and lost a lot of skin, but he is now making a rapid recovery at the Mardella Stud, where he has joined Probation. Treasure Hunt is a powerfully-made brown horse standing 16.2. He is the first son of Bahram to come to New Zealand. Bahram was a Triple Crown winner and has sired the classic winners Big Game and Turkhan and also England’s champion stayer, Persian Gulf. Treasure Hunt’s half-sister Picture Play, won this year’s One Thousand Guineas by four lengths in the colours of Mr. Joel, who bred Treasure Hunt, Chief Ruler and Absurd. . _ • GREYMOUTH J.C.
