RACING AND TROTTING

MEETINGS TO COME. November 11: Napier Park. November 11: Avondale.

TROTTING.

Nov. 11:—Metropolitan.

Mile Champions: The fastest performances in the Dominion stand to the credit of Lawn Derby, 1.59 2-5, Gold Bar, 1,59 3-5; Van Derby, 2.0 2-5; Indianapolis, 2.0 2-5; Haughty 2.0 2-5; Lucky Jack, 2.1 1-5, and Josedale Grattan, 2.2.

Plenty of Sneed: Few horses showed more speed at Addington than Knave of Diamonds in the Canterbury Handicap. He broke up and lost a lot of ground at the start. After making up the leeway, he broke again, but even then was in a winning position at the half-mile, only for a further lapse to put him out of the contest. He is not likely to be at any fancy price next Saturday.

Consistent Pacer: Sir Volo has been a consistent performer for Mr. P. V. Flexman, of Auckland. Under F. J. Smith the son of Lusty Volo and a Jack Potts mare secured three firsts and two seconds last season, and m four starts in the last four months has had one first and two seconds. He has a big task in the Le Lievre Handicap on Saturday, but will probably be in a place. CAITHNESS APPEALS DISQUALIFICATION REMOVED WELLINGTON, November 8. The appeals of Mr P. Louis, the owner, H. A. Telford, the trainer, ana J. A. McFarlane, the jockey, to the Racing Conference appeal judges m the Caithness case, succeeded, the apoeal in each case being allowed. The appeals were against the decision of the Wellington District Committee, which increased to 12 months’ the term of six months’ disqualification imposed on the appellants by the judicial committee of the OtakiMaori Racing Club in connection with the running of the mare Caithness in the Ling Memorial Handicap at Otaki on October 7.

The effect of the appeal judges’ decision is that both terms of disqualification imposed by the Otaki Club and the Wellington District Committee are removed. The judges were Messrs D. E. Wanklyn (Christchurch), G. R. Macdonald (Cheviot) and A. Miller (Hamilton), and their decision was unanimous. The hearing of the appeals occupied seven hours.
