OPERA HOUSE: To-night: “Cabin in The Sky.”

Music, drama and fantasy mingle in rapid-fire entertainment that starts in an air-conditioned Hades and ends in a wrecked night club in “Cabin m the Sky,” showing at the Opera House. , . . Based on the Broadway musical fantasy, the film deals with the struggle between the forces of good and evil for the soul of Little Joe, played by Eddie Anderson. Lucifer, Jr. is played by Rex Ingram, wellknown stage star, who enlists the aid of the beautiful temptress Lena Horne to achieve his end. The forces of good represented by Kenneth Spencer, noted concert, singer, align themselves with Petunia, Little Joe s faithful and loving wife, depicted, by Ethel Waters. In spectacular musical sequences she sings the charming songs, “Happiness is Just a Thing Called Joe,” “Cabin in the Sky,” and “Taking a Chance on Love.” Lena Horne is a tempting temptress. She sings the ballad, “Honey in the Honeycomb,” and does a delightful comic duet with Rochester called “Consequences.” Bright musical moments are provided bv the swing numbers of Duke Ellington and his band and the impressive harmonies of the Hail .lolm son choir.

REGENT THEATRE -“Pride and ■ Prejudice”.

There is nothing in the world like a good old fashioned story and (he Regent Theatre will present “.Pride and Prejudice.” That splendid actress, Greer Garson, is supported by Lawrence Olivier. The theme isjhat of an energetic mother, whose trials and tribulations are many in her efforts to secure husbands for her daughters. Lawrence in particular being a real snob is eventually brought to earth by the adorable Greer. Mother eventually turns the trick and succeeds in disposing of her daughters to very eligible young men. Included in the cast are Mary Boland, Edna May Oliver, Maureen O’Sullivan. Ann Rutherford and Freda Inescort,. Our mid-week news and a Pete Smith will also be screened.
