OPERA HOUSE—Now Showing: “The Buccaneer.”
Vividly painted on one of the most glowing canvases in history -“The Buccaneer” brings to roaring life the howdiest most dare-devil hero ever to reach the heights of glory. With the broad panorama of the war of 1812 as a background “The Buccaneer” with a truly magnificent cast headed by Frederic March, Franciska Gaal, Margot Grahame, Walter Brennan and Akim Tarniroff is now showing at the Opera House. In the picture Fredric March is cast as the famous pirate chief, Jean Lafitte, whose love for a belle of old New Orleans, Margot Grahame, and her country, the struggling young United States, makes him join with General Andrew Jackson in the defence of New Orleans against the British attack. Although he becomes the hero of the hour when the British are routed, March loses his honor and his sweetheart when il becomes known that his men sank the American merchant ship, “Corinthian." with Margot’s sister and a score of other prominent citizens aboard. Escaping from New Orleans with Jackson’s help, he goes into exile with the girl who really understands and loves him Franciska Gaal, an orphan whom he had rescued from the sea.

The hilarious results of a secret marriage arc revealed with extraordinary effect in “Fired Wife’’ commencing at the Regent Theatre on Wednesday. The new comedy-drama starring Robert Paige and Louise Allbritton is announced as one of the most mirthful and entertaining pictures in the current array of fun films. Diana Barrymore and Walter Abel have leading features roles. The story concerns the mix-ups which occur when the newly married wife of an advertising executive has to leave her husband during their honeymoon and direct a play for her dramatist employer who does not know she is married. The action veers from Broadway to Reno and back again before the fade-out. Such outstanding comedian as Abbott and Costello regard this picture as the funniest “comedy of errors” yet brought to the screen.
