STOP-WORK MEETINGS.
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —The Minister of Railways has said that the threatened stop-work meeting by N.Z.R. employees would not assist their cause. Would he say stop-work meetings have retarded the progress of coal miners, wharf labourers»or freezing workers? I wonder if it was the absence of stopwork meetings in years gone past which put £95 into the pay envelope of two State miners, on Friday last. Freedom, equality and justice is what our sons are fighting and dying for. Freedom we have but would the Minister himself say that equality and justice prevails. War expenses account (taxation) to be paid out giving high wages to certain sections of the community, but starvation wages to other sections ot the community. Take the miner with his time and a-half for Saturday 7 hours work approximately 42/-, whether he worked a full week or not. Let the railway employee have one day off during the week what does he receive? Yours etc. ONE OF THE PRESSED.
