RACING AND TROTTING

MEETINGS TO COME. July 22: Combined Hunts (at Marton). July 29: Christchurch Hunt. August 5: Canterbury. August 5: Hawke’s Bay. August 12: Canterbury. August 19: Pakuranga. August 26: Egmoht-Wanganui and Taranaki Combined (at Hawera) September 2: Dunedin. September 9: Wanganui. September 9: Avondale.

New Owner: The new owner of Full Chase is Mr. J.sD. Simpson, of Auckland, and formerly of Christchurch. Full Chase will be trained by F. Christmas until after the Grand National meeting.

Speedy: Prize Ring, a half-brother by Ringmaster to Hearth, will not be out of place among the hacks at Riccarton. The Mosgiel owner-trainer. D. P. Wilson, won the Riverton Trial Handicap with him at Easter, while at his last start he was the runner--up to Nurnie in the Smithfield Hack at Washdyke.

Under a Handicap: When Abdicate reached Wellington he had an enlarged knee, received during his short period of hurdle racing. The swelling did not subside much during his stay at Trentham, but it did not prevent him from racing, and his effort in the Parliamentary Handicap was full of merit for he was among the-prominent runners all the way and finished a good fourth.

Family of Mudlarks: Dileas, who did best of the two-year-olds engaged in the Trial Plate, is a gelding by Dink from Cradle Song, a Lucullus mare whose family, including Crooning, Prival, Clipper and Malaguena, were all noted for their ability to gallop in heavy ground. Dileas is trained by G. W. New for Messrs J. and L. McMillan, Palmerston North.

From Same Family: As Required and Borak, winners of the two principal jumping races at Trentham on Saturday, both descend from the same taproot. Both go to Eulogy, Borak through Variant, Motley and Pennon and As Required through Kotou, Courtesy and Homage. Eulogy’s great family of winners will continue to expand, for all her female descendants are breeding on, and there is scarcely a meeting held that one of her tribe is not returned a winner. Useful: One of the Trial Platers to make a useful showing at his first attempt in public was Longsword, who is raced by Mr. G. A. Lang, Wellington. Longsword galloped well for a green horse and finished seventh. He is a three-year-old by Lang Bian from the imported Spionetta, who was by the Derby winner Spion Kop, Spionetta was the dam of Night Spi, Money Spi, Ruling Spi and Espionage and Longsword is her last living foal, as she died in 1942.
