Mrs. J. Hunter presided over the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute. There was a good attendance. Mrs. Cunningham and Miss Holmes recently arrived from England were extended a cordial welcome to Kumara. _ The Golden Thread talk on “Maoris” by Mrs. D. Caithness proved interesting. A social half hour competition was won by Mesdames Malcolmson and Birss. The quilting box received on loan from Dunedin was inspected by members. A bring and buy to assist the funds proved attractive and articles found a ready sale. The mystery parcel’ was won by Mrs. Reedy. Competitions for the best bloom: Mrs. Reedy 1, Miss Hamer 2, Mrs. Evenden 3. Best three pikelets: Mrs. Evenden 1, Miss Hamer 2, Mrs. Birss 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Evenden and Miss Hamer.
