KING PETER’S MARRIAGE
THRONE ENDANGERED
(Rec. 10 a.m.) LONDON, March 23. The marriage of King Peter on Monday may cost him his throne, say Lon:ion observers. He defied the Yugoslav Army of Liberation and the virtual Premier of Jugoslavia, Tito. Many Jugoslav leaders also were strongly opposed to the marriage. He also caused a breach with his mother, Queen Marie, who refused to attend, the ceremony.
Jugoslav officials say that King Peter overrode all advice and made arrangements for his wedding himself. He ordered the flowers and wedding breakfast suddenly at the weekend. In addition, he flouted his advisers to such an extent that the military representative of Mikhailovitch, the Jugoslav Chetnik leader, was invited to be present. This is taken to be an obvious gesture against Tito. It is reported in London to-day that Tito has already taken steps to freeze the twenty million sterling of Jugoslav gold reserves, from which King Peter is financed.
