Pilot Officer Francis Hogg, R.N.Z. A F., has been awarded the Croix de Guerre Beige by the Belgian Government “in recognition of valuable services • rendered in connection with the war.”—B.O.W.

The engagement was announced at her 21st birthday party of Ellen, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Gibson of Nelson, to Jack, second son of Mr. and the late Mrs. I. Steel of Kumar a.

The funeral of the late Mr Artnur KinseV took place at Karoro Cemetery, Rev. W. S. Brettell conducting the services at the residence and at the graveside. Mr J. Glynn, of Runanga. read the Druids’ service.

A Sydney cablegram stated that Captain J. L. Griffiths, N.Z.E.F.,- who is A.D.C. to Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg, was married at Sydney on Saturday to Miss Jean Pearson, of North Sydney. Captain Griffiths, who arrived the previous day on three months’ furlough, met the bride when he visited Sydney with an All Black Rugby team before the war.

Passmore (Dunedin). Rev. Father C. J. Callaghan, S.M., of St. Bede’s College, has been transferred to St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, and the Rev. Father B. O’Brien, S.M., of Silverstream, and the Rev. Father J. Spillane, S.M., recently ordained, will take up duties at St. Bede’s College within the next few weeks. Rev. Father P. Kane, who for the last few years has been on the teaching staff of St. Patrick’s College, Silverstream, has been transferred to St. Mary’s parish, Manchester Street.

Mr. Frank Bird, Registrar of the Supreme Court at Greymouth, will retire from the Government service on January 31 after a period of 46 years, including service in the South African War and 42 years with the Justice Department. Mr. Bird, who has been Registrar at Greymouth for the last eight years and a half, will be relieved by Mr. D. Malcolm, Clerk of the Court at Eltham, pending a permanent appointment being made. Mr. Malcolm will arrive in Greymouth on Friday.

The death occurred at Christchurch, early this morning, of Mrs. Mary King, the wife of Mr. Thomas King, oi' Runanga, and the youngest, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lister, of Granity. Mrs. King took an interest in the work of the Plunket Society and was the first President of the Granity and Runanga Branches. Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. M. R. Spiers, of Christchurch; one son, Mr. Joseph King,’ of Wellington; two brothers, Messrs Thomas Lister, of Reefton, and Robert Lister, of Pahiatanui: and one sister, Mrs. Davis, of Petone.

The death occurred suddenly on Saturday afternoon, of Mr. William Alfred Blundell, of Cobden, a native of Christchurch, aged 61 years. Deceased had resided at. Greymouth for the past 21 years and at the time of his death was employed as a truck driver by the Greymouth Borough Council. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mesdames H. Breach, A. Aiderton (Greymouth) and A. Moseley (Cobden) and three sisters, Mesdames R. Lake (Christchurch), Pascoe and Miss Blundell (Wellington). The funeral took place at Karoro Cemetery this afternoon, Rev. C. F. Saunders conducting the services.
