Brood Mares for Tasmania: The Tasmanian studmaster, Mr. E. F. Tatlow, has built up a solid foundation for his stud by importing New Zea-land-bred mares, and during the last few months he has added to his good collection with the following mares: Connenora by Travis Axworthy-Mil-lie de Oro, Toceetie by Grattan Loy-al-Cyone, Wishful by Jack PottsHope Dillon, Gay Sister by Nelson Derby-Bell of Brass, and Edna May.

Transfers: Larissa, who was previously held on lease by Mr. D. McFarlane from Mr. H. F. Nicoll, has been purchased by Mr. McFarlane. Kewpie’s Wrack, by Wrack-Kewpie, has been sold by Mrs. E. K. Mauger to Mr. M. C. McTigue. Stylish Boy has been purchased by Mr. J. Stormont of Auckland. Red Shadow, sire of Shadow Maid and other winners, has been sold by Mr. J. Bryce to Mr. F. W. White, of Christchurch. Sir Julien, winner of the Sapling Stakes and Canterbury Park Juvenile Stakes in 1939, has been purchased by Mr. J. W. Millar, Ashburton. Elvo’s Pride, by Nelson Derby-Elvo, has been leased by Mr. O. E. Hooper from Mr. R. Bebbington. MEETINGS - POSTPONED. •

DUNEDIN, January 21

Because of the railway restrictions in the South Island, the Forbury Park Trotting Club has decided to postpone its Summer meeting from January 29 until February 26. This decision was made at a special meeting of the committee of the club to-day. It was decided to close nominations on Friday, February 11, and acceptances on Monday, February 21, handicaps to be declared on Wednesday, February 16.

About 80 Canterbury horses were engaged at the meeting.

INVERCARGILL, January 21.

Because of railway restrictions the Winton Jockey Club decided tonight to cancel its meeting set down for February 5.

WELLINGTON, January 21. The top price on the second day of the eighteenth annual national sale of thoroughbred yearlings at Trentham to-day was 1850gns. paid by Mr. T. R. George, of Masterton, for a bay colt by Robin Goodfellow from Dresden China, bred by Captain B. K. Edkins, of Keri Keri, North Auckland, and reared at the Flaxmere Stud, Hastings. The colt is a half-brother to Greek Shepherd, winner of eight races as a three-year-old, including the Great Northern Derby and St. Leger. Seventy-nine lots were sold for ■ a total of 2*8,820gn5., an average of 364 gns. each. This made the aggregate realisation for the two days of the sale 67,835gn5.. for 161. lots, an average of slightly more than 421gns. The lots sold constitute a new record, being four more than last year, when 157 were disposed of for 39,592gn5., an average of 252gns. The total realisation exceeded the previous best in 1943 by 28,243gn5. Five lots sold .yesterday for four figures. The second highest price was 1500 gns. given for a brown colt by Ringmaster from Submission, who was bought by Mr. M. J. Moodabe, Auckland. The colt is a full brother to the champion two-year-old filly Subdued who has been unbeaten in four starts. The other four-figure price lots were 1150gns. paid by Mr. A. Winder, Te Rapa, for a brown colt by Bulandshar, from Kathbella; 1050gns. paid by Mr. C. Boyle, Palmerston North, for a filly by Foxbridge from Gay Blonde, and lOOOgns. paid by Mr. F. V. Lysons, acting for the Maharajah of Kashmir, for a chestnut colt by Battle Song from Tradition.

Mr. A. Louisson, Christchurch, paid 900gns. for a chestnut filly by Coronach from La Bru.
