FATAL WOUND CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. The death occurred in the Christchurch Hospital late this evening oi George Hatton Johnston, aged 26, oi 73 Rhona Street, Linwood, who was admitted about 5.45 p.m. with a gunshot wound in the head. BUILDING~EMPLOYEES AUCKLAND, November 24. Dissatisfaction has arisen among building trade workers in Auckland, owing to revoking of the Essential Building Workers’ Labour Legislation Order, 1943, No. J, which provided for travelling time and fares. This action, taken by the Minister oi Labour (Mr Webb) will result in a loss to the workers oi 4d daily in fares and a quarter of an hour s travelling time, equal to 9?d in some cases, or approximately 6/0 weekly in the aggregate. A mass meeting of building trade workers will be held in the Town Hall on Friday morning to discuss questions arising out of the revocation order. Those attending will include carpenters, bricklayers, plumbers. plasterers, roof tilers, painters ami limber workers.

TUBERCULOSIS PROBLEMS AUCKLAND, November 23. A conference of doctors and representatives of hospital boards in the northern half of the North Island, called by the Health Department to consider problems relating to tuberculosis in that area, was opened today. Dr. C. A. Taylor, director of the Department’s tuberculosis division, presided. Only doctors took part in to-day’s meeting, which was concerned with - prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Those present included medical superintendents oi public hospitals, medical officers oi health, tuberculosis officers, superintendents of sanatoria, and certain other specialists. The meeting to-morrow will be attended by both doctors and hospital board representatives, and will be opened by the Minister of Health (Mr Nordmeyer). The conference is the second of a series of three covering the Dominion. The first was held at* Palmerston North in September, and the third will be in the South Island. The proceedings are in committee.
