MONTHLY MEETING.
■ Severe comment was made at a meeting of the Grey Returned Services’ Association last evening, on the policy of the Rehabilitation Department in regard to homes for returned servicemen. It was considered that the cost of homes was beyond the reach of returned men and it was decided to urge the Government to supply the first £3OO of the purchase money . for homes, the amount to be a charge on the Wai’ Expenses Account. The Secretary (Mr. T. P. Ryan) stated that the Chairman of the Rehabilitation Board (Mr. M. Moohan) had been invited to visit Greymouth. There were present at the meeting: Messrs O. McLean (President), F. Chivers, T. H. Jones, J. Smith, G. Batty, J. Fairman, N. Messenger, G. G. M. Mitchell, G. E. English, W. Green, W. E. Pring and the Secretary. Mr. Messenger submitted his report on the annual conference in Wellington, which he attended as Grey delegate, and he was thanked for his report and for his attendance at the conference.
The Secretary reported on numerous pension cases dealt with since the last meeting. He also reported that the Rehabilitation Officer and the Registrar of Pensions at Greymouth gave excellent service to returned men and that the Patriotic Committee dealt with' all cases fairly. . . Mr. Jones reported on his visits to returned men in hospital and stated that tobacco was distributed fortnightly to an average of 10 patients. It was decided to erect crosses on the graves of all returned men at the Karoro Cemetery.
