REEFTON, June 16

The County Chairman, Mr. W. Hempseed, presided at the monthly meeting of the Inangahua District Patriotic Committee. D. J. Evans, Secretary Westland Provincial Patriotic Council advised that the lecture tour planned by Mr. Frank Clune, would not be carried out owing to lack of support from District Councils. The Canterbury Waste Reclamaition Committee advised the receipt of two tons of waste rubber sent by the Reefton Women’s Institute and explained the delay in acknowledging same, value being £B/5/1 nett. / D. J. Evans wrote in regard to contributions made to funds by postal officers and railway officers. Mr. Wells explained that contributions made by postal officers were deducted in Wellington and paid into funds there. —It was resolved that the Post-master-General and Minister of Railwavs be written to asking that amounts as contributed by local railway and postal officers be credited to Reefton Patriotic funds. , Alexander Mines forwarded 13/7, (being monthly contribution from mine employees. The National Patriotic Fund Board advised that the district quota for knitted goods was 138 each mittens, scarves and balaclavas; also advising that the Joint Council of the Red Cross had agreed to assist patriotic committees and the Council with the raising of patriotic funds, and suggesting that' a month be set aside for this purpose for a Red Cross Appeal. The Westland Committee advised that July was being set aside for a Red Cross drive. —Mr. Wells moved, and the chairman seconded that no action be taken. —Carried. Mr. Auld reported the receipt of a parcel of books from Mrs. Potter, Reefton.

Mr. Peek, Inangahua Landing, advised the formation of a committee to conduct functions at the Landing to raise patriotic funds. Mrs. Moseley, secretary Waiuta Red Cross forwarded £lO/1/9 and asked that this sum be set aside for prisoner of war parcels, and as a contribution towards the district quota.— The secretary advised that he had ’written Mrs. Moseley advising the committee could not do this as there were no special prisoner of wai 1 funds. It was resolved that the matter be referred to the Westland Council. The secretary reported monthly contributions £65/14/- as follow: — W. Hunt £l, Wills Ltd. 7/6, Reefton Jockey Club £5, Cronadun Committee result of auction and entertainIrnent. £52/16/5 Reefton Committee £5/11/6. Alexander Mines 13/7, Mrs. and Miss King 5/-. Total receipts to date £3,976/10/11.
