GREYMOUTH MATCHES In ideal weather and ground conditions the West Coast Rugby Union’s competitions were continued on Saturday. The main match at Rugby Park between Star-United and Blaketown seniors was won by the former by 16 points to three, after they "had had a good deal the better of the game. The Cobden-Celtic match did not eventuate, Cobden winning by default, but a match was played between two scratch teams, in the third grade, Blaketown defeated Cobden and Technical defeated Celtic.
STAR-UNITED 16, BLAKETOWN 3
Star-United provided practically all the constructive play in the mam game at the Park won bj r Star-United by 16 points to Blaketown’s three. It was a hard game, but the winners were too strong for their opponents, in both backs and forwards. The teams were: —
Star-United: Jones, Laing, White, Sweetman, Sansom, Dewar, Goodall, Jackson (2), Roberts, Blair, Cringle, Pegley, Hagan, Nelson. Blaketown: Panther, Inwood (2), Olsen’ Thomas, McDonnell, Malle 4 ', Madden, Tomlinson. Coulson, Todd, Currie, Coppersmith, McKendrv, Faulkner.
Sweetman scored the first try for the combined team when he received a pass from Goodall on the blind side of a scrum on the 25 and raced over. Dewar failed with the kick. Goodal 1 and Sweetman again starred in the second try, Sweetman scoring after Goodall had gained a lot of ground. De-war converted from a handy position. Goodall scored the third try, but Dewar failed to convert. StarUnited 11, Blaketown nil. Sweetman scored his third try for the day when he scored again near the close of the game fox’ Goodall to add the extras. Blaketown’s only points came from a try by Mallet, aftei’ Thomas has made a good run. Thomas’s kick failed. Final score: Star-United 16, Blaketown 3. Mr. J. Minchin was referee. THIRD GRADE. Blaketown thirds defeated Cobden by foui’ points to three at Rugby Park. Hornsby potted a goal for the winners and Baynes scored an unconverted try fox' Cobden. On the Technical School ground, Technical defeated Celtic by eight points to nil. Stevens kicked a goal from a penalty and also converted a try scored by Studholme.
