A. Cook’s Representatives: The Te Awamutu trainer, A Cook, will have strong representation in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie with Royal Glory and Olga’s Pal. Royal Glory has won three times in five starts, and Olga’s Pal has had three firsts and a third in six starts.

Won Easily: Nighean, who won the distance hack race on the first day scored an even easier win on Saturday at Hastings. The daughter of Lackham and that good mare Piuthair was always handy and after passing the leader, Fiddler’s Green, with a furlong to run, was not afterwards threatened. This mare is trained by J. J. Waller, and this was her third win this season.

Jovial Lass: Jovial Lass, who made a bad beginning on the first day at Hastings made some amends last Saturday when she won the final event comfortably. She is a three-year-old filly by Jovial Son from Rood and prior to the Hawke’s Bay meeting had had a fourth, a second and a win at successive starts, the win being recorded at the Taranaki meeting in February.

Death of C. G. Goulsbro: The death occurred on Saturday of the wellknown jockey, Cyril George Goulsbro, aged 32, of Te Awamutu. Goulsbro, who was one of the outstanding horsemen in New Zealand for many years, was in 1938 second to the leading jockey. He served his apprenticeship with the Trentham trainer J. Lowe, and later with E. George, of New Plymouth. He has ridden many winners, and his most important successes include Cerne Abbas in the New Zealand Cup and Sly Fox in the Mitchelson Cup.

Won Impressively: The softening of the track after rain gave Classform a chance to prove her worth at Hastings on Saturday, and she won impressively. She moved up to the leaders approaching the straight and then stayed on to win comfortably from the fast-finishing Pompit. Rink was fourth, but at no stage did the Derby winner look like doing any better. However, he did not get the best of passages. Glenfalloch received a serious check on the home turn and his fifth was a good performance. This Kincardine colt should soon get his turn.

Outstanding Performance: Monmouth put up an outstanding performance to win the Twyford Handicap at Hastings last Saturday. Though he drew No. 1 he failed to hold his place in the run for positions and went back in the.first couple of furlongs. He put in a fast run to reach the leaders as they entered the straight and then won casing up. Crispin was slow away from an outside position, but showed pace to run into the lead, only to weaken into sixth place in the straight. Monmouth is a four-year-old gelding by Alchemic from Courtesan and is owned by C. T. Keeble. for whom he is trained by G. Greene.

Green’s Appeal Upheld: An appeal by S. J. Green, an apprentice jockey, against the decision of the judicial committee of the Waimate Racing Club and Waimate District Hunt suspending him from riding at the combined meeting on March 27, was upheld by the Canterbury District Committee, yesterday. GREY JOCKEY CLUB At a meeting of the Greymouth Jockey Club a motion of condolence was passed with the relations of the late Mrs. Drake, deceased having been in charge of the Club’s ambulance 'room for many years.
