SECT LOSES PRIEST
JERUSALEM, January 22.
The death yesterday of Mazliach Benshlima, High Priest of the Samaritan Israelite community, living near Nablus, Palestine, has provided what is believed to be the world’s smallest Israelite sect with the problem of a successor.
The Samaritans, who claim never to have left the Holy Land for the past 2,000 years, observe Mosaic Law and ignore later rites and customs devised by Jewry in exile. Mazliach Benshlomo was 74. He was elected High Priest a decade ago.
