MR. NASH RETURNING

TO INTRODUCE BUDGET

WELLINGTON, March 3.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) announced to-night that Mr. Nash New Zealand Minister in Washington, would be returning to New Zealand for consultation with the Government and that he would introduce the Budget, which would be presented to the House of Representatives at as early a date as possible. NEW YORK COMMENT NEW YORK, March 3. Discussing the return of Mr. Nash to New Zealand, the Washington correspondent of the “New York Times” says it is questionable whether Mr. Nash will go back to Washington. He may remain in New Zealand to present the Budget to Parliament and participate in the forthcoming General Election.

The Washington correspondent of the Australian Associated Press learns that Mr. Nash protested to the United States Department of State against the allegations of Mr. Melvin Maas regarding New Zealand airfields. It is understood that the protest completely refutes Mr. Maas’s charges. MAJOR SKINNER AS MINISTER

WELLINGTON, March 3. A unanimous decision that Major C. F. Skinner, M.C., M.P. for Motueka, be recommended for appointment to the Ministry to fill the vacancy caused by Mr. F. Langstone’s resignation, was made by the Parliamentary Labour Party at its caucus to-day. Major Skinner, who was recently mentioned in despatches is serving with the New Zealand Division in the Middle East. The decision of the Party was announced by the Prime Minister Mr. Fraser, who said that other members, who had been previously nominated, had immediately withdrawn when Major Skinner was nominated. Before returning to New Zealand, Major Skinner would be visiting the United Kingdom, in accordance with arrangements that were made before his selection for Cabinet appointment. The Government has recently been asked by the British Ministry of Information, said Mr. Fraser, to send a capable representative to Britain to speak on New Zealand’s war effort in the field, and at home. Major Skinner had accented this mission. Arrangements had been made with General Freyberg for Major Skinner’s temporary release to visit Britain. Probably, it ' will be some months before his rpturn to the Dominion. .
