AIR CASUALTIES

WELLINGTON, December 22.

The following air casualties have boon announced (rank Sergeant, and R.N.Z.A.F. unless otherwise stated): Blackmore. Trevor Morgan, South Canterbury; Bryson, Flight Sergeant Norman Albert, Christchurch (both killed on air operations); Cheney, Norman James, England (missing, believed killed); Franklin, Benjamin Allan, Auckland; Harvey, Edgar William, Auckland (both killed on active service); Lip-Guey, William Herbert, Wellington (missing on air operations); Sydall, Leading Aircraftsman Alexander Vaea, Bay of Islands (slightly injured on active service); Welch, Harold Rangi, Wellington and Whitcombe, William Henry Palmerston North, (killed on active service).

NEW ZEALAND ACCIDENTS

WELLINGTON, Dec. 22

Official details were announced today about Royal New Zealand Air Force personnel reported missing as a result of aircraft accidents in New Zealand.

Wreckage from the aircraft in which Pilot Officers S. G. Bromley (Wellington), R. Dent (New Plymouth), and C. H. Dunn (Wataroa) were reported missing on October 30, having been recovered, these officers have been reclassified missing, believed killed.

The body of Sergeant P. A. Morey (Wellington) has been recovered from the sea. This airman was reported missing on December 7, together with Leading Aircraftman T. P. Davies (Wellington), who has now been reclassified missing, believed killed. No further information is available concerning the aircraft reported missing on December 8. The occupants were Flying Officers C. N. Turnbull (Palmerston North) and H. Kinder (Petone), and Sergeant N. Stewart (Gisborne). In spite of extensive searches no trace has been found of the aircraft reported missing between Mount Egmont and Kawhia harbour on October 2,3. It was occupied by Pilot Officer R. G. Dandy (Wellington) and Sergeants D. G. Martyn (Waihi), G. M. Martin (Christchurch), and R. Dodson (Nelson). Mrs. G. M. Martin, of Christchurch, has written to the Air Department, Wellington, offering a substantial reward for any information leading to the discovery of her husband missing in this aircraft. N.Z.E.F. LIST WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. The following N.Z.E.F. casualties have been announced:— Killed in Action:—Jones, Gunner Stanley, Oxford. Killed in Action, previously reported missing:—Southworth. Second Lieutenant William John, Auckland. Missing believed killed, previously reported missing:—Bartlett, Signalman Leonard John, Maungaturoto. Wounded:—Reid, Temporary Major Hugh Murray, M.C., Oamaru.
