REEFTON, October 20. Mr. and Mrs. T. Kearns of Reefton, have been advised that their son Derek has been promoted to the rank of Pilot Officer.

St. Joseph’s (Reefton) Tennis Club held the official opening ceremony of their courts on Saturday afternoon. The season was declared open by Father Butler, who wished, the club a successful season.

Mr. W. August occupied the chair at the annual meeting of the Reefton Amateur Swimming Club. The annual report showed that the club had enjoyed a good season, the credit balance being £lB/0/7. Officers elected for the year were Patron, Mr. A. D. Milne. President, Mr. F. W. Archer. Vice-Presidents, Rev. Father O’Brien, Messrs T. Dellaca, C. Harris, A. Stanley, O. Sharpe, W. J. Humphries, W. Keesing, C. Cleaver. Secretary, Mr. A. Barnett. Treasurer, W. J. August. Club Captain, Mr. W. August. Ladies’ Captain, Marie Heslop Committee, Misses J. Bolitho, M, Hislop, Messrs K. Busch, J. Eklund, A. August, J. Crossman, G. Richards, C. Coxall. Delegates to West Coast Centre, Messrs W. Brant«, F. W. Baillie. Caretaker, Mr. G. Crossman. It was resolved that application be made to the Inangahua County Council for the usual subsidy for the caretaker’s wages. Sydney Ramsden, married, of Waiuta, an employee of Blackwater Mines suffered injuries while at work when he was struck by a falling stone. Mr. Ramsden was removed to Reefton Hospital, where he is improving, he having suffered rib and back injuries and severe bodily bruisReefton Tennis Club officially opened their courts for the season, on Sunday. Mr. K. Archer in the absence of the President welcomed the visitors, and declared the season open.
