REEFTON NOTES

REEFTON, July 1. The funeral of the late John J. Byrne, of Reef ton, this afternoon was largely attended. The Reefton Volunteer Fire Brigade, of which deceased was a member, attended in lull, and the Auxiliary Eire Brigade ,and officers and members of the Reef ton U.S.A, were also present. Members oi. the Fire Brigade were the pallbearers, and the coffin was conveyed

to the Cemetery on the fire engine, and was draped with a Union Jack. The burial services at Knox Presbyterian Church and at the graveside were conducted by Rev. J. Paterson. Secretary V. Newcombe read the Fire Brigade service. As the cortege was leaving the church the firebell at the main station was tolled. The lire engine was laden with wreaths, and almost every family in Reefton was represented. Mr W. Harvey, of Reefton, suffered a sudden illness this afternoon, and’ had to be removed to the Hospital.
