U-BOAT’S CRUISE
CLAIMS BY CAPTAIN.
LONDON, February 16. The Official German News Agency; has released the story of the cruise of the U-boat commander, LieutenantKapitan Hardegan, who claimed mat he reached the “entrance to New Y< He' said: “We were amazed as we looked on the city and saw Long Island’s piers and ceaseless coming and going of harbour craft. We sank 10 ships totalling 66,000 tons off the American coast, including the tankei Nordess.” The United States Navy Department admitted the loss of the Nordess on January 15. ENEMY SUBMARINE BOMBED. LONDON, February 16. The United States Army Department in Washington has announced that an enemy submarine was probably destroyed on Saturday off the west coast of the United States. It was bombed after it had made an attack on a United States tanker. The aircraft which attacked the submarine dropped several bombs and later a patch of oil appeared on the water. Two Axis submarines, which have been operating off the east coast of Canada, are now believed to have been sunk.”
