POLE VAULT RECORD
BOSTON, February 14. Cornelius Warmerdam broke all world’s, records for the pole vault with 15 feet 7 J inches. Last week he established the previous record of 15 feet 3-8 inches. BOXING. NEW YORK, February 14. Billy Conn (14 stone 7jlb.) won a 12-round decision over the middleweight boxing champion, Tony Zale (11 stone 101 b.). YACHTING The Centennial cups competition was finalised by the Greymouth Yacht Club during the week-end, when Idle Hour won the fifth race and the Cup. The conditions were much more favourable than for previous races, a fair south-westerly breeze blowing. The result was: Idle Hour (0. Smith) 1; Elaine (W. Messenger) 2; Waiata (G. Shaw) 3. Also started: Ellie (E. Hansen), Listless (R. McDonald). Idle Hour, with 339.8 points won the cup by 16.6 points from Elaine, which was the only other boat to add interest to the contest. In the junior series for the Messenger Cup the fourth race resulted as follow: Elaine (H. Longstaff) 1; Listless (W. Bergamini) 2. They were the only boats to complete the course.
