CYCLIST KILLED AUCKLAND, February 15. Fatal injuries were received by a cyclist in an accident on the Great South road near Takaninr. He was Ashton Edward John Fitchett, poultry farmer, 64, of Papakura.

RAILWAY FATALITY WELLINGTON, February 14. Injuries from which he died latex in hospital were received by a radwav surfaceman, Thomas Hirst, married, of Douglas Street, when ne was struck by a train near Kaiwana at 8.20 yesterday morning.

MAN BURNT TO DEATH CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 14. Robert McAdam, 83, retired was burnt to death at Domett-on Satur day ‘evening, when the hut in which he lived caught fire and was destroyed. Neighbours first noticed the fire about 10 o’clock, but with no water except that brought from houses some distance away little could be done. The cause of the fire is not known.

ACCOUNTANT CHARGED AUCKLAND. February 14. An accountant, George Lampton Gladding. 63, was charged m tne Magistrate’s Court with the theft of £24 while he was employed by the Ostend Road Board. On the application of the police, who said sums amounting to more than £2OOO were involved, he was remanded to appear on February 19." Bail, which was not opposed by the police, was allowed.

MAORI RUNS AMUCK. WHANGAREI, February 14. A half-caste Maori ran amuck at Waihopo, on the Northland gumfields, and left a trail of devastation. He burned a Dalmatian’s house to the ground, smashed another with a sledge hammer, tried to set fire to the public hall, and set alight a gum tip valued at between £2OOO and £3OOO. Finally, he was found, virtually undressed, in manuka scrub, and was arrested.

He was brought before the Court, and was remanded for a week. Arrangements are being made for a medical examination.
