GREYMOUTH GIRL GUIDES
ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Greymouth Girl Guides’ Association was held at the residence of Mrs. F. A. Kitchingham, who presided. The secretary read the annual report and balance-sheet, which were received as satisfactory. Company reports were read by Miss F. White (First Greymouth Guide Company) and Miss A. Heaphy (Third Greymouth. St. | Mary’s, Company). I Owing to illness, Mrs. Mills was unable to present the report on the year’s work of the Brownie Pack. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mrs. Kitchingham (re-elected); vice-pre-sident, Mrs. Tilleyshort (re-elected); committee, Mesdames J. M. Eunt, C. H. Lindsay, E. Parfitt, L. Armstrong, Dodd, N. Page, J. Shannon, J. W. Greenslade, F. Congreve, H. Hutchinson, Reeves, W. Berry; secretary, Mrs. S. F. White. It was decided that the annual appeal should take the form of a coin afternoon in October, and later an effort in which the Guides could take part. Those present were entertained by the President at supper. ANNUAL REPORT.
. The annual report for the year ended August 2b, 1941, was as follows: The year has been busy in Guide circles, much useful work having been done. In October last, we met at the home of our President, to tender our good wishes for health and happiness to Mrs. Devlin, divisional secretary, and to make her a small presentation on the occasion of ner marriage. The annual appeal for funds took the form of a garden party, for which Mrs. Kitchingham Kindly lent her garden. The function was a success both socially and financially, though the attendance of parents was rather disappointing. The proceeds were equally divided between the four companies. Committee members and friends attended the memorial service to the late Chief Scout, which was most inspiring. One felt that he has indeed a very wonderful and lasting memorial in the spirit of this wonderful movement, to which he gave so many years and so much loving thought, and which embodies all that he stood for in loyalty, comradeship, and true citizenship. Miss Cocks, Provincial • Commissioner visited us in March, and met Guiders and committee at a pleasant gathering at Miss L. Schaef’s. Miss Cocks gave an' interesting chat on Guiding matters. July saw the beginning of our rag drive for the Air Force, there being a good response to the appeal. Thanks to the careful organisation of the Guiders, everything went smoothly, and the Guides finished their big task of collecting in record time. Since then, committee members have worked hard sorting and cutting, and everything is now packed and awaiting dispatch to Christchurch. We are most grateful to all who helped, and to those firms who donated cases and sacks for packing purposes. The Scout Association have once more taken control of their hall, and an amicable arrangement has been reached between the two organisations as to oui’ continued use of the building. In spite of black-out difficulties, the Guide companies are carrying on cheerfully, and all show healthy progress. Our financial posi- 1 tion is not so good as usual, but this : year we bought a heater which is ’ much appreciated in the hall, and have also helped to send four of our 1 Guiders to training camps in Christ- ; church, where they have gained ' much useful knowledge. Our thanks ; are due to our Commissioners, to the ’ Guiders for their excellent work, to ] all parents and friends who have helped in various ways, and to the ■ Press.' ' )
