MEAT RETAIL PRICES
TRIBUNAL’S INTIMATION
WELLINGTON, August 12. Commenting that it had noted from announcements in the Press of the Dominion, that representatives of the Master Butchers’ Federation were conferring at Wellington, with a view to submitting counter-proposals following the recent issue of a price order by the Price Tribunal, fixing maximum prices at Which meat may be sold by retail, the Tribunal stated that it a'ccorded a hearing to a deputation from the Federation on August 6, when comments and suggested amendments in the matter of meat prices, were submitted. Responding to the deputation, the Tribunal expressed appreciation of the restrained, exhaustive manner in which the representations had been made. It stated it recognised that the matter was very difficult and complicated, and it pointed out that no pains had been spared to make the price order as fair and reasonable as possible, while at the same time paying full regard to the importance of stabilising the price of meat. The representations would, the Tribunal added, be carefully studied, and a subsequent reply given to the Federation. There is one thing, however, the Tribunal desired to emphasise; namely, that the price order is in existence, and mUst be carefully adhered to by all butchers, and it added it hoped there would be no complaints that the price order had not been obeyed.— P.A.
