A Simla cablegram stated that General Wavell had' arrived in India.

Mr. A. H. McKane arrived on Saturday, from Christchurch.

Mrs A. R. Curtis left on Saturday evening, for Christchurch.

Passengers by this morning’s express to Christchurch included: Mr. J. Ryall, M.L.C., Mr. J. Goodall, M.L.C., Mrs. I. Coffey, Mrs. J. Walker, Miss E. Bonisch (all to Wellington), Rev. Father Kelly (to Hastings).

Guests at Revingtons include: Mr and Mrs H. W. Duncan, Miss E. Duncan, Mr A. W. Sirett (Wellington); Mr F. B. Wright, Mr W. E. Cretnev. Mr G. Adie, Mr W. R. Jones (Christchurch); Mrs H. H. Gaudin (Auckland); Mr M. Nathans (Singapore); Miss T. Hogan (Hokitika).

Mr. E. A. Bastings, District Chief Clerk, Social Security Department, Greymouth, has received notice of transfer to a similar position at Hamilton. Mr. Bastings is a Second Lieutenant in the First Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast , Territorial Regiment, and has been instructor for the Runanga Home Guard, and for Home Guard N.C.O.’s.

The death occurred suddenly at Top House, Marlborough, of Mr. Michael Molan, a native of Goldsborough, aged about 67 years. Deceased had resided on the West Coast practically all his life. He conducted a carrying business in Greymouth for some years, and later was farming at Kopara, but had been away from the West Coast for the past three or four years. He is survived by one sister, Miss Bridget Molan (Wellington).

The death occurred at the Grey Hospital early this morning, after a lengthy illness, of Mr. Albert Axelsen, a native of Norway, aged 74 years. Deceased came to New Zealand 52 years ago, and worked for a number of years at Maori Creek. For the past 30 years, he had been a waterside worker at Greymouth. Deceased was an active member of the Salvation Army, and was for a number of years a Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Sister Hilda Axelsen (Grey Hospital staff), and Miss Alma Axelsen (a captain in the Salvation Army at Inglewood). The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery on Wednesday.

The death occurred at Wellington, this morning, of Mr. Richard Oswald Speed, a native of Victoria, aged about 68 years. Deceased resided on the West Coast for over 20 years, and was dredgemaster at Antonio’s Flat for some years. For the past 18 years he had been engaged on tin dredges in Siam. During one of his holiday visits to Greymouth, he was engaged to build the Matakitaki dredge. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mesdames A. Hungar, and G. Chester - man (of Wellington) and two sons, Richard (Wellington), and Frederick (serving with the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy). Mrs. J. Guy, High Street, is a sister-in-law of deceased.
