CHRISTMAS SHOPPING.
—- I [TO THE EDITOR.] j I Sir,—l notice that Cr. Anderson at the last Council meeting, stated that, there was a suggestion that two late shopping nights should be observed | during Christmas week, and it was [ decided to discuss the matter further at the next meeting. . I This comes as a complete surprise, to the trades interested, as such a suggestion has never been discussed or considered by them. We are all working under awards, some of which cover the Dominion, and to suggest that we approached the Borough Council for any variation is ridiculous. The [ Councillors should know that the i awards are no concern of theirs, but purely a matter for the businessmen, • Labour Department and unions, and a [ matter of this s'ort would have to be j dealt with by the Employers' Association, and would apply to the Dominion as a whole. —Yours, etc., .BUSINESS MAN.
