IKAMATUA NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
The first Anzac ceremony for many years was held at Ikamatua when a parade and service was held in the morning. The parade which included returned soldiers, home guards, boys’ brigade and school children, numbering about one hundred, was led by Piper Keith with company commander L. Shuttleworth in command. They marched from the railway station to the public hall where the service was held, the hall being well filled. Rev. Mr. Newman was chairman and with him on the platform were Rev. Mr. Seaton, Colonel Butcher and Mr. B. Mirfin. Mr. Mirfin read the roll of honour and the address was given by Colonel Butcher. The returned soldiers and home guard placed wreaths on the cenotaph erected on the platform and the school children placed their poppies. In the afternoon the Ikamatua returned soldiers went to Reefton to participate in the ceremony there.
