WEST COAST COMPETITION.

Better weather conditions could not have been experienced during the week-eiid for the. continuation of the West Coast Cricket Association’s competitions. After declaring with the loss of four for 165, Cobden secured a three-points win over Runanga by an innings and 44 runs. United secured a two-points win over Marist A, and Marist B defeated Camerons. s COBDEN V. RUNANGA. Playing at Runanga, yesterday, the home team batted first, and scored 42, the only player to reach double figures being Roache (13). Bowling for Cobden, Knapp took 5 for 20, Barlow 2 for 9, and Dewar 3 for 7. Cobden replied with 165 for 4 (declared), Guy 31, Fletcher not out 61, Dewar 133, and Knapp 59. In their second innings, Runanga were dismissed for 79 (Greening 14, McTigue 16, Scott 15, McCracken 12). Knapp took 4 for 33, Dewar 3 for 14, and Vaughan 2 for 16. UNITED V. MARIST A. Playing at the Recreation Ground, yesterday, United defeated Marist A by 102 runs. Batting first, Marist scored 117 (F. Bayley 24, W. Meates 22, J. Mathews 20, J. Wareham 15' not out). Bowling for United E. Taylor took 4 for 35, L. Lindley 3 for 34, R. Scott 2 for 23. United replied with 219 (R. Scott 57, L. Hook 31, H. Westwood 26, E. Taylor 25, W. Rapley 22, R. Baird 17, L. On the No. 2 wicket at the Recreation Ground, Marist B. defeated Camerons by 15 runs on the first innings. Batting first, Camerons made 84, J. Haglund (29 not out) and A. Wickes (26) providing most of the runs. R. O’Callaghan took 4 for 30, Mcßride 2 for 6 and Curnow 2 for 20. Marist replied with 99, J. Clancy (23), C. McBride (20 not out) and P. Croudis (11) being the top scorers. Haglund took 4 for 24, Dalkie 3 for 34 and Beardsley, 2 for 23. Marist High School received their first defeat of the season, at the Recreation Ground on Saturday, going down to Marist Old Boys.

Batting first, High School made 113 (J. Curnow 24, F. Kennedy 22, W. Wallace 12, C. Mcßride 13, O’Callaghan 12). Croudis took 6 for 34. Old Boys made 116 in reply (Pilling 48, T. C. Curnow 20, Willis 16, V. Meates 14). W. Meates took 3 for 13, Brett 2 for 20, Mcßride 2 for 23, O’Callaghan 2 for 30.

Results of matches played on Saturday:—Old Boys 167 defeated Lancaster Park 96 on the first innings. West Christchurch 178 for eight (dedefeated Army 107 on the first innings/ East Christchurch 253 for eight (declared) defeated St. Albans 160 on the first innings. Sydenham 190 for three wickets defeated Wigram 182 for eight wickets (declared) on the first innings. Old Collegians 236 for four wickets (declared) defeated West Old Boys 105 on the first innings. Riccarton 211 for eight wickets (declared) defeated Harewood 76 and 79 for one wicket on the first innings.

DUNEDIN. Beautifully line weather again made conditions for cricket most pleasant. The wickets and outfields were fast. The performance of the day was that of V. G. Cavanagh, captain of the Carisbrook B team who -scored 184 not out in a total of 319 against the unbeaten AlbionY.M.C.A. side. The only batsmen to give assistance were C. Geary (52) and J. Coombe (27). J. Allen took five wickets for 105 runs. AlbionY.M.C.A. scored 52 for one. Dunedin batted the whole afternoon for 280 for three wickets against University (O’Sullivan 104, McDonald 56, Robertson 58 not out, J. Wedlake 33 not out). Carisbrook A scored 236 against Old Boys and -took two wickets for 52 (Mclntyre 68, Milnes 49, and J. Cameron 47). Grange batted first against Kaikorai for -152 (Freeman 44; Allcott, five for 48). Kaikorai lost seven wickets for 43. C. J. Elmes took all seven wickets for 14.

AUCKLAND.

AUCKLAND, December 15.

Cricket matches were interfered with by rain yesterday. About two hours’ play was lost. Results:—Young Men’s Christian Association 166 for eight wickets (Scott 52 not out) met Papakura Camp. Grattan 197 (Archer 35, Williams 35, Martin 35) met Parnell. Ponsonby-Balmoral 182 (Cleal 49, Cleverley five for 64) met Middlemore. Training College 138 for four (Elliott 65 not out) met North Shore 48 for two.

WELLINGTON.

WELLINGTON, December 15.

Good scoring was seen on easy wickets when the fifth series of senior cricket championship games started on Saturday afternoon. Midland 306 (Hepburn 89, Osborn 62, Smith 38 not out, Bush. 26, Crawford 26) met Wellington 101 for one wicket (Henley 43, Thomas 24 not out, Morgan 27 not out). Hepburn and Osborn put on 145 for Midland’s first wicket. For Wellington, Rabone took four for 115 and Meech four for 107. Kilbirnie 296 (Wrigley 81, D. S. Wilson 68, Lubransky 45, Mooney. 38, J. Ashenden 23 not out) met Wellington College Old Boys 42 for three wickets. For Old Boys J. Lamason took six for 63, Boyes two for 51 n and Whyte two for 90. For Kilbirnie Lemin took three for 21, University 250 (P. D. Wilson 58, Caird 62) met Karori 108 for one wicket (Standidge 44, R. W. Coupland 37 not out). For Karori, Sewell took three for 58. Institute Old Boys 278 (Bazzant sj), Lang 40, McCarthy 42) met Hutt 67 for no wickets..

HOTTER-SCHOOLS MATCH.

CHRISTCHURCH, December 15.

Christ’s College defeated Otago Boys’ High School by an innings and 187 runs in their annual cricket match, which concluded on Saturday after-

noon. The losing side scored only 40 runs in the second innings.

Otago in the first innings made 139. The Christ’s College first innings yielded 366 for six wickets declared. Bowling for Christ’s College in the Otago second innings, McSweeney took four wickets, Hamilton three, and Rutherford one. There were two run outs. Play was continued at intervals during the afternoon, the batsmen having to contend with a sticky wicket which was a bowlers’ paradise. GOOD BOWLING TIMARU, December 15. In a senior cricket match on Saturday, G. Fitzgerald, playing for West End against Star captured all ten wickets for eleven runs in 13 overs. All of the batsmen were bowled. West End were beaten, Star making 83 and West End 56.

NELSON WIN.

NELSON, December 13

Nelson College defeated Greymouth High School to-day by five wickets. The scores were: Grey Technical, first innings 135; second innings 125. Nelson College, first innings 157, second innings 110 for 5 wickets (Harley not out 42, BoydWilson not out 24).
