WAGES INCREASE
EXEMPTION APPLICATIONS.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
WELLINGTON, August 19. Towards the end of this week, the Arbitration Court will commence the hearing in Wellington of applications for exemption from the, general order increasing the rates of pay by five per cent. At present, the list of applications is provisional only, but it is known that representations will be made to the Court byzthe New Zealand Master Bakers’ organisation, the award for whose employees dates back to 1938, and by employers who are parties to. the New Zealand storemen and packers’ award,. the New Zealand motor and horse drivers award, part two., (licensed, transport services) and the New Zealand taxidrivers’ award. The three last-namqd awards have all been made in recent months. An application is also lik.ely to be made to the Court, for exemption in respect of certain clerical workers, as well as certain . sections of employees whose awards allow for the provision of food and accommodation. In several cases, a formal application for exemption will require to be. made, because of agreements entered into in anticipation of the general order. The Court is due to sit at Auckland on September 6. Whether the sittings at Palmerston North and New Plymouth will be possible before that date, as originally intended, will depend'upon the number of applications for exemption to be disposed of in Wellington.
