t WEST COAST DRAFTS. a The Third Echelon of the Expedir tionary Force will go into camp next week and drafts of West Coast recruits will leave Greymouth on Tuesj day, Wednesday .and Thursday.- The I troops who -are being drafted to . The next sitting of the Medical Board at Greymouth will be held on Tuesday next, at 9 a.m. and it is emphasised that men desiring to join the Third Echelon should enlist in time to appear before this Board. For ‘this reason, enlistments of men to appear before the Board will be taken up till 11 a.m. on Tuesday. There have been two further enlistments at Greymouth, raising the effective district total to 604. One of the names was not available for pub- ■ lication and the other was R. Jones. NO CONSCRIPTION. AUCKLAND, May 6. “The issue of conscription has -been mentioned to-night, and I do not want to treat it lightly,” said the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), speaking at the opening of the campaign of Mr. P. 1 Carr, the official Labour Party candidate for the vacant Auckland West seat, at Ponsonby to-night. “I have said on previous occasions that if our shores were invaded, orif there was a threat of invasion, every man and woman and every penny of money would be at the disposal of the State,” Mr. Fraser said amid applause. “The Labour Party and the Government have stood for the voluntary system', which, up to the present time, has been a. great success,” he added. A voice: But it is not fair. Mr. Fraser: The Government adheres to the voluntary system. The war effort of New Zealand was also discussed briefly by Mr. Carr. He said he was 100 per cent, behind the policy of the Government in regard 1 to the. war.
