Rear-Admiral H. R. Moore has been appointed a Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty and Assistant-Chief of the Naval Staff (stated a London cablegram).

Mr. William Yates, of JVellington, has been appointed secretary of the National Broadcasting Service. He has had long experience in accountancy, departmental administration, and the arrangement and presentation of broadcast programmes. Coming to New Zealand from England in 1912, he joined the Education Department in 1914. He was appointed accountant to the first Unemployment Board in 1930, and in 1934. he joined the Broadcasting Board as supervisor of plays.
The death took place on Sunday, at Westland Hospital, of Mr. William Edward Clarke. Deceased was a native of Rcss, 57 years of age. He was a widower, and was a carpenter by trade. He was, in his earlier days, a well-known footballer and cricketer, and for many years was a member of the Ross Fire Brigade, holding the gold star for 25 years’ service, and was the vice-president of the West Coast Fire Brigades’ Association. He leaves one son (Sydney, at Jackson’s Bay), and one brother (John, at Blaketown)
Colonel C. H. Weston, K.C., D. 5.0., has resigned as honorary consul for the .Netherlands in New Zealand, and in recognition of his services the order of knighthood of Orange-Nassau has been conferred on him by her Majesty the Queen of the Netherlands. For valuable service rendered, the gold medal of the order of OrangeNassau has been • bestowed by her Majesty on Mr. A. J. Fernie, who for more than 25 years acted as secretary of the Netherlands Consulate in Wellington. He has relinquished his duties on the reorganisation of the consulate after the recent appointment of a viceconsul “de carriere,” Mr. M. F. Vigeveno.—Press Assn.
