ANNETTE KELLERMAN CUP. [PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, February 11. The Annette Kellerman Cup harbour swim was held this afternoon Conditions were good, but the water was cold. A large crowd -watched J. C. Blakeley (Wellington) win a thrilling finish,' with P. Malthus (Wellington). Both kept together to within 30 yards of the finishing post, when Blakeley made a final spurt to gain a length on Malthus at the finish. Blakeley, who gained fastest ..times in this race at Lyttelton in 1934 and at Dunedin in 1936, again established fastest time, recording 78min 15sec which is regarded as the fastest time over recorded in the race. There were 24 starters, 16 finishing. The third man, C. Kidd (Otago) was about 49 yards away, three yards in front of P. Ryan (Hawera). The others were well back. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. WELLINGTON, February 11. The New Zealand amateur swimming championships opened at the Riddiford Baths, Lower Hutt, on Saturday morning, before a fair attendance' The water was at 65 degrees. The weather was overcast most of the morning. Because of a strong southerly and heavy rain which sprang up in the afternoon, events set down tor Saturday night were postponed till Tuesday night. Results of events held on Saturday morning were: — Men’s IQO Yards—First heat: PHanan (Auckland) 1, J. T. Clark (Wellington) 2, H. G? Goldsmith (Canterbury) 3. Won by four feet; touch second and third. Time, 56 4-5 sec. Second heat: R. Hatchwell (Wellington) 1, J. Whiti (Bay of Plenty) 2, D. H. Symes (Canterbury) 3. Won bv a length; foot second and third. Time, 56 l-ssec. Men’s 220 Yards Breaststroke—First heat: H. Dyson (Otago) 1, K. Shaw (Southland) 2, K. Spry (Wellington) 3 Won by a length. Time, 3min 1 3-5 sec. Second heat: S. Thomson (Hawke’s Bay) 1, M. Shannahan (Auckland) 2, R. Geddes (Otago) 3. Won by a length. Robertson (Wellington) finished third 1 , but was disqualified. Geddes was well back Time, 3min 13 l-ssec.

A scratch 100 yards freestyle race held to decide who will fill the last position in the Wellington flyingsquadron was won by E. A. Raven in 62sec. , Water Polo Championship (first match) —Wellington B 0, Canterbuij 0.

YESTERDAY’S RESULTS. WELLINGTON, February 12. The New Zealand senior national swmming championships were continued this morning and to-night. Two heats in the men’s 20 yards freestyle and a round of the water polo championships were held in the morning, and to-night a large crowd attended to see the decisions in the 220 yards men’s frestyle, the 100 yards women’s backstroke, the 100 yards men s backstroke, the 880 yards men’s freestyle, and the 440 yards women’s freestyle championships. Though slightly cold in the morning the temperature of the water considerably improved, from 63 to 67 degrees, by the evening. The day was sunny and warm. Re220 Yards Men’s Freestyle—Final. P.
