GREY VALLEY MINES
DOBSON TO RESUME. Following a statement made yesterday, bj r the Minister for Mines, Mr. P. C. Webb, to the effect that if work was not resumed at the Dobson and Wallsend mines, he would recommend the Government to work the collieries, the Grey Valley Colliery Company’s Dobson mine., which has been idle since January 24, will resume work to-mor-row. The Company closed the mine soon after the dispute on the holiday paj- basis reached the stage that th« men refused to work. The Grey Valley Workers’ Union (Dobson miners) met this morning, at the Wallsend Hall, and made, arrangements for the resumption of operations. No decision has yet been made to resume work at the Wallsend mine, which has been idle since January 22. As in the case of the Dobson mine, the Wallsend mine was closed by the owners (Brunner Collieries Ltd.) soon after the men came out. Negotiations are still proceeding between the Government and the Company for a resumption of production, but no satisfactory arrangement had been arrived at before the “Star” went to press, this afternoon. A special meeting of the Wallsend Miners’ Union was held this afternoon. LIVERPOOL MINE IDLE. On account of heating in one of the stoppings in the Morgan East section of the Liverpool mine, where ,a fire occurred about 15 months ago, the Liverpool mine was idle to-day. The danger zone is being sealed off again by a new line of stoppings, and the mines inspectors will make an inspection to-morrow.
If the result of the inspection is satisfactory, the mine will resume on Thursday.
