REEFTON NOTES

REEFTON, February 12.

For the first time for 18 days, Reefton had a fine day on Sunday. The rainfall for this period of the year has to date reached a total which has not been exceeded for over. 40 years. The weather is unseasonable. Rain ceased about 8 p.m. on Saturday night and there was a decided drop in temperature. The hill tops are sprinkled with snow and on Saturday night there was a light frost. To-day the weather conditions, though fine, are not summery. There is a keen wind. The annual schools excursion is to be held at Greymouth on Tuesday. Trains are toi run from Inangahua Junction and with prospects for a fine day a large crowd is certain to travel. Business houses in Reefton are to be closed for the day. Pupils from the Reefton District High School are to compete at the combined school sports meeting on Victoria Park. W. R. Bell and AV. O’Malley, both of this district, left by to-day’s 1 train to enter the special forestry camp in the North Island. R. C. Borlase and J. P. Bonisch, of Westport, who enlisted in Reefton from the local forestry workers, also join the train at Greymouth to enter camp for training. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Duff who have been on holiday in the North Island, have returned.

Mr. W. Jury of Reefton, Railwaj 7 staff, is being transferred to Canterbury. ..
