NEW YORK, February 11

The Washington correspondent of the “New York Times” says that the rising trend of Russian''imports from the United States since the Finnish war began is revealed in the analysis of trade figures for December. They are valued at 15,000,000 dollars—more than a quarter of the total in 1939, in which the adverse Russian trade balance was 43,000,000 dollars. Accelerated purchases in 1940 are expected, mainly of machinery and manufactured aeroplanes.

The Mexico City correspondent of the “New York Times” confirms that Manzanillo (Mexico) has become a clearing house for United States copper for Vladivostok, from where, it is suspected, it is to be railed to Germany.
