WARFARE AT SEA
NEUTRAL VESSELS SUNK. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, December 7. The Greek steamer Paralos (3934 tons) was sunk either by a mine or a torpedo in the Thames Estuary. Three members of the crew were killed and the remaining 26 were rescued and landed by a British steamer, 10 receiving, hospital treatment. The Paralos was en route from Antwerp to Piraeus and was carrying German coal.
The Norwegian vessel Primula (1024 tons) was sunk in the North Sea after an explosion on December 4. Eight members of the crew are missing. The remainder were landed at a Scottish port by a Danish steamer which picked them up from a raft.
DUTCH SHIP TORPEDOED.
AMSTERDAM, December 7.
It is officially announced that the motor-ship Tajandoen was torpedoed in the English channel. The ship was en route to Java, with general cargo, after calling at a British contraband station. Sixty-eight persons were aboard. Italian vessel picked up 34, including six of the 14 passengers. Later, the other eight passengers were rescued. Only six members of the crew are now missing. The ship went down in flames. BRITISH TRAWLER MINED. LONDON, December 7. His Majesty’s trawler Washington was mined in the North Sea. Eight men were drowned. COLLISION IN CONVOY. LONDON, December 7. The Chancellor was sunk in the Atlantic, as the result of a collision while in convoy. All the crew were rescued. The German radio announces that the Orsa has been sunk.
