NAZI DISSENSION
HITLER BETWEEN TWO FIRES. [BY CABLE —PBEBS ASSN. COPYEIGHT.] LONDON, November 17. The Paris radio states “for what it is worth” that the Commandei-in-Chief of the German Army (General von Brauchitsch) has fallen under suspicion, and has been compelled to hand over much of his power to General Keitel, Chief of the High Command. It adds that the young; military leaders demand large-scale military action, but the older army leaders are convinced that an attack on the Maginot Line would be disastrous. Herr Hitler stands helplessly hesitant, between these groups. . The danger of internal dissension in Germany is mentioned in the weekly letter distributed to Nazi leaders, in which it is stated that the whole German people must become a vast intelligence service. The German Freedom Station broadcast a manifesto last night, demanding the destruction of Herr Hitler and his party and the creation of a free Germany. It was mentioned in the broadcast that the leaders of the German Socialist Party met after the Munich explosion and issued a statement in which they said that the struggle against Herr Hitler was being waged not by foreign Powers, but by thousands of German workmen. An unconfirmed report from Rotterdam states that for the first time there are signs of an outspokenly critical tendency in , the ranks of the Nazi Storm Troopers. It is believed that the confiscation of an issue of their newspaper “Der Schwarz Korps” has aroused no littie resentment. There is still no news beyond that from sources outside Germany to con firm the rumoured split in the Nazi Party. The Paris correspondent of the British United Press emphasises that responsible quarters are treating with the utmost reserve rumours of Nazi Party dissension, all of which come from neutral countries.
In the meantime, well-informed quarters discount the report of the arrest of prominent Nazis —which even allege the execution of General von Blomberg.
