The emergency session of Parliament opened, and adjourned until tomorrow, without taking action. Lord Tweedsmuir, in his Speech from tlie Throne, said that Britain was honouring her pledges, given as a means of avoiding hostilities, and had become engaged in war with Germany. I need not speak <or the extreme gravity' of the hour. There can have been few, if any, more critical in the history, of the world. My Ministers are convinced that Canada is prepared to make a united national effort, to defend to the utmost the liberties of the institutions which are our common heritage.” Lord Tweedsmuir did not disclose details of co-operation with Britain.
