A ruling as to what attitude should be adopted in the case of an application from a parent for a child to attend a dressmaking class organised by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union one morning a week was sought by the head teacher of a Waikato school in a letter received at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board. The teacher said he had received similar requests relating to attendance of children at music, elocution and dancing classes and that so far he had refused to give permission for absence. “We will have to take a stand here or we will be getting all kipds of applications,” said the chairman, Mr. W. J. Campbell, in moving that the board direct that, such applications be declined. The motion was carried.
