GREYMOUTH REGATTA CLUB

ANNUAL KBPORT. Tho following report will be submitted to the annual meeting of the Greymouth Regatta Club, ibis evening:—Your committee have pleasure in reporting another successful season, both financially and generally. The Club’s Heel increased by three new Silver Ferns, Malilon, Frolic, and Ranger, but during the season Ranger was transferred to Nelson, and her owner, Mr R. Trewern’s, place on the committee was filled' by Mr R. Blacktopp. All the trophies were sailed for, and many changed hands alter the contests, which is all to the good. Committee meetings were held twice monthly during the active sailing season, being well attended. Trophies and pennants were won as follow: — McLean Cu,p (Karoro), R. Moffatt; Messenger Cup (Rascal) D. Smith; Robertson Trophy (Mystic) G. Scott; Silver Fern Plaque (Rascal) R. Blacktopp; Ward Trophy (Manurtwa), E. W. Smith; Commodore Cup (Mystic) G. Scott; Stevens Cup (Manurewa) E. W. Smith; Doctors and Dentists’ Cup (Mystic) G. Scott; Billett Cup (Rascal) R. Blacktopp. Pennants: — first (Karoro), R. Moffatt; three thirds, (Vagabond) G. Messenger; two firsts (Rascal) W. Blacktopp; two seconds, (Bounty) J. Hogarth; one first and second, (Mystic) G. Scott; one third, (Mako) P. McDonald. Our congratulations are extended to Mr P. McDonald on lifting the Whitford Cup from Canterbury with the Mako. Vagabond, Listless and Rascal also made the journey to the Canterbury Regatta, and although not winning major places, did well, and gained valuable experience. Boxing Day Regatta, although slightly marred by the complete absence of wind in the morning, was a successful afternoon function, and owing to the assistance of friends, with stalls on Ihe wharf, was a financial success also. Our thanks are extended also to Messrs P. Coll, A. Fielding, S. Knapp, T. Willis, R. Longstaff, T. Condon and friends for their assistance. Good work was also performed by lady friends with an ice-cream stall and baby show, kindly judged by Mrs Templeton. Our Lyttelton friends again visited us with Waiana and Juanita, ai d did not return empty-handed. All of the fleet journeyed to Moana, for the New Year and good racing ensued, with another change in the custody of trophies. Much praise is due to the Moana Club for their enterprise in providing a good regatta. Owing to distinguished practical service in building the Club to its present strong position your committee recommended that our President, Mr J. G. Walton, be elected our first life member. Prospects for the incoming season are particularly bright, with five new boats “on the stocks,” and a sound financial position, and the committee trust that members will enjoy a prosperous new season.
